Hybrid inverter from Kontron Solar receives "Made in Europe" bonus

SolBrid more secure against cyber attacks

Memmingen, 25 June 2025 - Solar and battery storage systems with the SolBrid hybrid inverter from manufacturer Kontron Solar will receive up to 20% more subsidies in Austria thanks to the new "Made in Europe" bonus. This is because all production steps take place in Europe. The bonus came into force on Monday with the second funding call for photovoltaic and electricity storage projects. The additional funding is intended to strengthen the European industry and counteract unfair global competitive conditions. The funding budget to be distributed for the second round is twelve million euros. Eight million euros will then be distributed in the third funding call in October. Hybrid inverters are becoming increasingly established on the market. The SolBrid offers installers a great deal of flexibility in project planning and is also highly secure against cyber attacks.

Resilient production and cyber attacks

"Producing in Europe also means being much more resilient in these times of geopolitical conflict. We manufacture our SolBrid hybrid inverter in Memmingen, Leipzig and Saedinenie in Bulgaria," reports Martin Rausch, CEO of Kontron Solar. "When developing and producing an inverter, it is also important to close as many security gaps as possible against cyber attacks. We have several specialists on board for this and also benefit from Kontron AG's many years of expertise. The topic is becoming increasingly explosive - and not just since suspicious components have repeatedly been found in Asian inverters. The majority of all hacker attacks on energy infrastructures have so far been directed against European systems. As a manufacturer of inverters, which are part of the critical infrastructure, we take our responsibility for grid security very seriously."

SolBrid almost always fits

The three-phase 10 kW hybrid inverter has been developed to offer installers a great deal of flexibility in project planning. It has up to four MPP trackers so that PV modules on the roof can be orientated in four different directions. The battery charging current of up to 25 A enables the connection of various high-voltage batteries. In addition, the SolBrid works for a very wide voltage range from 85 to 700 volts and is compatible with most battery storage brands.

In the event of a power failure, all consumers in the house can be supplied with emergency power from the PV system or the battery. All you need to do is install a Grid Switch from Kontron Solar - retrofitting the Grid Switch is also possible. The SolBrid hybrid inverter can also be installed outdoors.

20 % subsidy bonus in addition to the regular subsidy

"The Made-in-Europe bonus is paid out in addition to the regular subsidy. This is a great incentive for anyone who wants to invest in a solar system and battery storage," says Golo Wahl, Director of Sales at Kontron Solar. "We hope that other European countries will follow this good example. Such a bonus would also be an important signal in Germany."

In Austria, photovoltaic systems with an output of up to 10 kW receive a regular subsidy rate of 160 euros per kW. For solar systems with 10 to 20 kilowatts, the subsidy is 150 euros per kW. Systems with 20 to 100 kW receive 140 euros per kW. The regular subsidy rate for electricity storage systems is 150 euros per kWh.

A supplement of 20 % on this investment subsidy is possible if solar modules (10 %) or inverters (10 %) from European production are installed in the photovoltaic systems. For storage systems manufactured in Europe, a 10% surcharge on the investment cost subsidy is stipulated by law.
