The solar and energy specialist KATEK Memmingen GmbH was awarded second place on 10 February 2020 in Berlin in the ‘Special Award’ category – with its trainees in attendance

Berlin/Memmingen – Self-learning skills, personal responsibility, problem solving skills, teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach and mindset are at the forefront of the agile training concept e.nova lab at KATEK Memmingen GmbH. The aim is to develop the skills that are needed for Industry 4.0 and digitalisation in particular. Second place in the special award category at the IHK Education Award: the trainees and Training Leader Andreas Mayer were delighted with this achievement at the award ceremony in Berlin.

The expert jury from the field of education and training had selected twelve finalists from more than 100 applications. They represent one of the most committed companies in Germany in education and training. The top four in each category have now been selected in Berlin. 300 voters cast their votes live and awarded KATEK Memmingen GmbH 2nd place in the ‘Special Award’ category. The IHK Education Award underscores the great importance of vocational education and training for Germany as a business hub and demonstrates the impressive educational achievements of its companies. Oliver Welke, a well-known host from television broadcaster ZDF, moderated the event. Dr Eric Schweitzer, President of the DIHK, and Elke Büdenbender, wife of the Federal President, offered words of praise to the award-winning companies.
“Our trainees have played the biggest part in the success of the e.nova.lab project. The trip to Berlin is a gesture of recognition, making attendance at the award ceremony a matter of course. The fact that we have now actually received the award as the second place winner makes everyone proud and proves that KATEK Memmingen GmbH is on the right path”, boasts Training Leader Andreas Mayer.
Developed by and in collaboration with the trainees
The electronic innovation lab, or e.nova lab for short, primarily focuses on developing new ideas while complementing existing programmes such as in-house training and on-the-job training courses in various departments as well as teaching soft skills. Challenges and projects are developed in collaborative teams using the modern agile method. This allows talented trainees to be identified and their development to be nurtured.
