With Kontron eSystems GmbH, a new provider of high-performance electronics for the solar, energy and e-mobility industries is entering the market. The new company combines the expertise of eSystems MTG GmbH, Kontron Solar GmbH and Kontron Leipzig GmbH, forming a powerful systems supplier tailored to the demands of the energy transition. Kontron eSystems is a subsidiary of Kontron AG, a globally leading provider of IoT and Embedded Computer Technology (ECT). In addition to its green technologies, Kontron eSystems also offers customer-specific manufacturing services as an EMS/ODM partner.
“The ramp-up of electromobility and residential PV usage requires new, integrated solutions,” emphasises Jochen Paukert, Executive Vice President of Kontron eSystems. “By bringing together expertise in the key sectors of eMobility, solar and electronics manufacturing within one company, we are able to deliver precisely that.”
Kontron eSystems possesses strong expertise in intelligent connectivity and cyber security and is deeply rooted in both the automotive and solar industries. Its product portfolio includes connected charging systems, intelligent inverters and battery charging systems for residential and semi-public applications. The company operates state-of-the-art electronics manufacturing facilities in Leipzig, Memmingen and Bulgaria, employing around 1,000 people. The existing sites of the former companies will remain in operation, and customers and suppliers will continue to work with their established contacts.
With the hybrid inverter SolBrid and the wallbox ghostONE, the company offers solutions for intelligent, PV-optimised charging. The merger is already having a direct impact on product development: inverters manufactured at the Memmingen site are being enhanced with existing software components from wallbox development. This integration creates highly connected and intelligent devices for PV applications. In addition to individual components, Kontron eSystems will also offer complete system solutions in future – including energy managers, wallboxes, inverters and batteries.
The production facilities of the newly structured Kontron eSystems GmbH will also operate under one corporate umbrella following the merger. The Leipzig site specialises in electronics manufacturing, high-tech injection moulding with fully automated in-mould decoration processes, and box build. The plant holds extensive certifications and meets automotive industry audit standards. In addition to its own products, it manufactures complex electronic designs for customers from the automotive, e-mobility, energy, healthcare and defence sectors. The Memmingen facility focuses on high-end SMD technology and dual-component plastic coating, while the Bulgarian site specialises in cable assembly and best-cost electronics manufacturing.
The “Made in Europe” strategy ensures secure supply chains and avoids cost increases caused by tariffs. “With our European production network, we are excellently positioned in terms of both resilience and manufacturing capacity to meet the growing demands of our customers,” stresses Martin Rausch, Executive Vice President of Kontron eSystems. Kontron eSystems acts both as an EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) provider and as an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) – meaning the company manufactures according to customer design specifications as well as its own product designs.
